Comparative Testing

Comparative Testing is one of the types of testing that we offer, and this type of testing allows us to compare two or more products/devices with one another to give useful data on design solutions. From Comparative Testing, the participants are able to experience two or more product/device design during the testing session which allows rich feedback, and in return we are able to gather more insight into the design of each product/device. 

Comparative Testing includes the comparison of existing product/devices and comparing the use errors between the products/devices, the time take to complete tasks and analysing any other trends that are prominent. 

 In this type of testing, it is essential that that the participants are able to think aloud during each test session, and are able to discuss and feedback any issues that were encountered during the testing session. Their opinion on the products/devices are invaluable, as this gives us and the client a clear understanding on the components that work well, or components that don’t work so well. 

In addition to participants’ feedback and use error data, it is essential that questionnaire data is also collected so that the data can be analysed and compared to determine which design is preferred. 

Comparative Testing requires the test session to be open and flexible, in the sense that general questions will need to be asked and then honed in on certain parts where feedback would be essential. Gathering participants’ feedback and opinions at the end of the test session is important as they will give your their overall impression and experience with the products/devices.
